
Position Available: Full-Time Senior Building Science Project Manager (Charlotte)
Southern Energy Management, North Carolina’s leading provider of energy efficiency and solar power services, seeks a full-time Senior Building Science Project Manager to lead our fast-growing building science team in Charlotte, NC. The Building Science Project Manager will work directly with clients, including developers, builders, sub-trades and property owners to provide technical advice, performance testing and verification of compliance with requirements of programs such as ENERGY STAR and Green Building Certification. The position requires in-depth knowledge of energy surveys, residential and commercial building diagnostics, energy conservation savings calculations and review of construction documents. A strong commitment to sustainable energy, community involvement and dedication to the vision of SEM is a must.
Job Duties:
• Participate and contribute to achieving the goals of SEM and the Building Science team.
• Cultivating relationships with clients such as builders and sub-contractors.
• Schedule inspections and appointments for all building science team members.
• Complete field reports accurately and in a timely manner.
• Oversee and verify all data input in I-Rate, REM Rate and other energy rating and analysis software.
• Write and submit proposals for work to be performed.
• Field test new homes for energy efficiency parameters, such as: whole house air leakage measurements, duct leakage measurements and visual inspections of subcontractors’ work.
• Perform energy surveys on existing homes and commercial properties and prepare reports that clearly convey findings and recommendations of energy efficiency upgrades or repairs.
• Provide on-site technical assistance to builders, developers and sub-contractors regarding means and methods for achieving certification for programs such as Energy Star and others.
• Commit to occasional overtime in order to meet client needs.
• Travel required approximately 25% of time.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in building science, building energy efficiency, and commercial/residential building construction; or combination of training and experience.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and green building principles and best practices.
- Home Energy Rating System (HERS) certification.
- Experience with REM Rate software.
- Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work within a collaborative team.
- Excellent communication skills - both written & verbal.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong math and geometry skills.
- High level of computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn energy rating, modeling and CRM software.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted.
- Ability to work outdoors, in basements, crawl spaces and attics.
- Ability to erect and climb steps and telescoping ladders.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Access to a reliable vehicle with adequate space for the transport of equipment.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- 4-year college degree
- Certification in other areas related to building science & green building, i.e., BPI, LEED, professional licenses, etc.
