Certifications and Qualifications

RESNET Certified

The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) is a set of national standards for energy efficiency rating systems for the building industry. Southern Energy has the national designation as a RESNET-approved "Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Provider," which means we are approved to certify and monitor HERS home energy raters - including those who work for our company as well as those employed by other companies.

In addition to our designation as a HERS provider, every member of our building science team is personally certified as a "home energy rater" or "field inspector." Earning the RESNET certification requires undergoing a series of training classes, passing a rigorous exam, and completing a period of probationary ratings. Whether you are a builder hiring us to verify your new homes through the Energy Star program, a home owner hiring us to perform a energy survey of your home, or an organization in need of a comprehensive energy assessment of your buildings - when you work with us you can trust you are working with qualified professionals who are trained to help you make smart decisions about your sustainable energy options.

NAHB

Along with the RESNET program, we work closely with the National Association of Home Builders to advance opportunities for efficient, affordable housing. Three members of our team have achieved the NAHB Certified Green Professional designation. A certified green professional completes additional NAHB trainings and commits to continual education every three years to stay current to green building trends. In addition, Southern Energy has more NAHB accredited verifiers than any other company in North Carolina. The NAHB Green Building Program certifies verifiers to independently review program requirements.

NABCEP

The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) is a distinguished program designed to promote safety, skill and value to customers and practitioners by certifying renewable energy professionals to high industry standards. Our lead solar engineers and installers have all earned NABCEP certification.

Our solar team is made up of engineers, plumbers and electricians who have completed all available training provided by our solar equipment vendors. Along with licensed professional engineers (PEs) for solar engineering and energy consulting projects, members of the team hold North Carolina unlimited commercial electrical and plumbing licenses and South Carolina mechanical contractor licenses.
